Kampala: The latest news reaching on our desk indicates that all is not well with former Vice President Edward Ssekandi after he was threatened with legal action in an alleged fight with his ex bonkmate over multi-billion properties in Masaka district.

According to documents seen by this website, a woman identified as Letitia Nakimbugwe claims that she fell in love with Ssekandi “25 years ago at Agripa Hotel in Masaka” after which they started “cohabiting” and as a result, they were “blessed with two children named Nsomera Katrina and Nantumwe Cynthia, aged 20 and 18 respectively.”

According to her lawyers, under Mbabaali Jude and Co. Advocates, Nakimbugwe and Ssekandi “constructed a residential home at Nyanama, Busingiri Zone, Mutundwe Parish, Wakiso district, in which he has continued to cohabit with her and the children “until recently when the relationship took another turn.”

Notice Of Intention to Sue Ssekandi

Nakimbugwe alleges that she contributed funds to mobilising materials for the construction of the commercial properties and concentrated all her skills, time and efforts on overseeing the construction of the said buildings as Ssekandi was busy with government duties adding that she even had to travel to China to buy construction materials including windows and doors of the said buildings.

“You (Ssekandi) agreed that you shall use some of the proceeds from tenants to pay school fees and upkeep for the said children as they study in the United Kingdom,” she has been the “one collecting rent from the said properties for this purpose,” Nakimbugwe adds through her lawyers in the documents.

Now to her disappointment, Nakimbugwe revealed that Ssekandi recently changed the management of the buildings without her consent and worse still threw her out of the building after she failed to pay rent of over UGX6 million.

According to Nakimbugwe’s lawyers, the properties are jointly owned by “virtue of the operation of the doctrine of proprietary estoppels and partnership.”

”In the premises, we pray that you take notice that the above-mentioned properties are jointly owned by you and our client by virtue of the operation of the doctrine of proprietary estoppels and partnership” and the purpose hereof is to pray that within two days from the date hereof you sit with our client to have this issue settled. Failure of which we have instructions to drag to court to seek a declaration that you and our client are tenants in common of the above-mentioned properties and therefore have equal shares,” the lawyers concluded.

The court would have to decide whether Nakimbugwe, who is not legally married to Ssekandi, stands a chance to benefit from his wealth.

Ssekandi now has two days to respond and settle matters amicably or be dragged to court.

We shall keep you updated.
