Ssebagala revealed that the reason which forced him to quit the race is that he wants unity amongst fellow opposition members.

While addressing the press at his office, Latif pledged to continue supporting his party, President Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi and all other forces aiming to create change in Uganda.

However, according to a reliable source, Latif quit the race because he didn’t see any reason why he would stand against the incumbent Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who is also the Forum for Democratic Change flag bearer for the same post come 2021.

He said, “I remain a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and will still give all my support to Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu for the presidency.”

The development comes amidst a lot of criticism from the Kampala Lord Mayor aspirant Jose Chameleone who was dropped by the party and through a video that went viral, he questioned why NUP meant for the young generation would hand over its party ticket to a political veteran.

Over the last one year, Ssebagala has oscillated from one position to another, leaving people guessing. At the start of 2019, he announced that he would contest for the mayorship of Kampala and made runs on media stations promoting his bid.

Towards the end of the year, he said he had now opted to return to Kawempe North which he has represented since 2001. Two months ago, he said he would not run for the mayorship but last week, he announced that he had chosen to stand for EALA elections. He returned to the Mayoral race and again has abandoned it.
