Just In: Uganda Registers 40 Fresh COVID-19 Cases A Few Hours To Presidential Address, Number Shoots To 457

As State House officials are up and down organizing for the 15th Presidential Address On COVID-19, the Ministry of Health has confirmed that Uganda has recorded 40 fresh COVID-19 cases.

The new cases were samples tested on  May 31, 2020, after the Ministry had announced new seven infections who were all frontline health workers.

Among the new 40 cases, 23 cases are among samples tested from Points of Entry, while 17 cases are among samples of contacts and alerts, thereby bringing total confirmed cases to 457.

According to the Ministry, thirty-one (31) foreign truck drivers, (11 Tanzanians), nineteen (19) Kenyans and one (1 Eritrean) tested positive for CoVID-19 and were handed back to their respective countries of origin.

The Ministry added that Twenty (20) of the confirmed cases are truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu Point of Entry, while Two (2) of the confirmed cases are truck drivers who arrived from Tanzania via Mutukula Point of Entry

“Twenty (20) of the confirmed cases are truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu Point of Entry, Two (2) of the confirmed cases are truck drivers who arrived from Tanzania via Mutukula Point of Entry” a statement read from the Ministry of Health reads.

Additionally, One (1) of the confirmed cases is a truck driver who arrived via Padea Point of Entry and Seventeen (17) of the confirmed cases are contacts to previously confirmed cases. And these include: 2 from Gulu, 1 from Jinja, 3 from Amudat, 3 from Wakiso, 2 from Amuru, 1 from Yumbe, 2 from Zombo, 3 from Nebbi Districts.

As we report this, there are 303 admitted COVID-19 confirmed cases in 15 Referral Hospitals in the country; however the Ministry says they are in stable condition and the nation has not registered any COVID-19 related death.
