Kampala Police Arrest Over 100 Suspects In Intelligence-Led Crime Crackdown

The Kampala Metropolitan Police, working in coordination with other security agencies, has arrested more than 100 suspects following a series of intelligence-led operations conducted across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

The coordinated crackdown, carried out on March 23, 2026, was launched in response to growing public concern over rising criminal activity, including robbery, phone snatching, and drug abuse.

According to police reports, the operations targeted crime-prone areas identified through surveillance and community complaints.

In Kira Division, officers conducted raids in Kito B Cell, Kito A Zone, and Kireku Main Zone, resulting in the arrest of 34 suspects. Meanwhile, in Entebbe Division, operations in Kawafu and Abaita Ababiri led to the apprehension of 46 individuals.

Additional operations in Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District covering KKB Zone, Ssanyi Village, Dewey Village, and Kawali Village resulted in 17 arrests. Police in Jinja Road Division arrested seven suspects in Kilombe, while a similar operation in Namayumba under Kakiri Police led to seven more arrests.

Authorities say the suspects were linked to offenses ranging from social disorder and noise pollution to gambling, burglary, and theft. The operations also focused on dismantling organized criminal groups known for nighttime attacks on pedestrians and involvement in narcotic substance abuse.

Police confirmed that several exhibits, including suspected illegal drugs, were recovered during the raids.

All suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face court proceedings as investigations continue.

Security officials have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and urged the public to continue cooperating by reporting suspicious activities.
