The family of dead social worker Kenneth Akena has asked judiciary for speedy trial so their fallen beloved can receive justice.

Francis Omona, the father of the deceased revealed that his son might not receive justice because when he contacted office of directorate of Public Prosecutions about the case he was informed that they don’t have enough money to proceed with Kanyamunyu’s case.

“Ever since the suspects were granted bail, the case stalled up to now, so justice delayed is justice denied. Our son should be accorded justice even though he is dead “Omona Yelled.

He added “if DPP, a Government department doesn’t have money to prosecute such wealthy suspects then where shall poor people like us get justice from?” High Court Judge Wilson Kwesiga released Mathew Kanyamunyu on bail.

Kanyamunyu, 34, the executive director of Quantum Express Logistics is suspected to have shot dead Akena in the stomach for denting his car while trying to park near his (Kanayamunyu) at forest mall Lugogo. Akena died a day after at Norvik Hospital, on Bombo Road in Kampala.

Kanyamunyu was granted a cash bail of sh10m on grounds that he has substantial sureties and a permanent place of residence at Royal Palms along Butabika Road.

His five sureties, who were ordered to execute a bond of sh10m not cash are Moses Karuhanga, 41, Julius Kanyamunyu, 50, Miriam Ssebunya, 62, Stella Karuhanga, 64, and Gad Gasatura, 66, all relatives of the accused.

The court ordered the suspects to keep reporting to the registrar in-charge of the Criminal court once every month which Akena’s family members and well-wishers say it’s one of the delaying tactics to halt the speedy trial of the case.

Kanyamunyu is battling charges of murder together with his brother Joseph and girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari, who were the first to be released on bail in March this year.

Prosecution alleges that the accused and others still at large on November 12, 2016 along Kampala-Jinja road opposite Malik car bond with malice aforethought caused the death of Akena.
