Several political, religious and cultural leaders have been named in the new assassination hit dropped by unknown assailants.
According to police report, the list has 16 names including Buganda Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, Kyadondo East MP Robert Kagulanyi, Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga, Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Kampala Minister Betty Kamya among others.

Others in trouble that are likely not to have X-mas with the rest of the world include Rubaga North MP Moses Kasibante, deputy police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, former Kampala South Regional Police Commander CP Siraj Bakaleke, titular head of the Kibuli Muslim sect Prince Kassim Nakibinge and Kibuli deputy mufti Sheikh Mahmudu Kibaate.

Kasibante said the list was dropped at his home by an unidentified person and that he immediately informed police about the matter.
“When I contacted police, they assured me that they would investigate the matter. Apparently, this case is to be handled by Old Kampala Police Station,” Kasibante said.

However, Ntungamo Municipality MP Hon.Gerald Karuhanga who has been receiving death threats for close to two months now blamed police for failing to produce reports of previous cases of leaders receiving death threats.

“For instance for those of us that have reported before, nothing has been done about them. That makes us think that probably the state knows what’s happening,” Mr Karuhanga said.

However, police Spokesperson SSP Emilian Kayima said precautionary measures would be taken to protect the people on the list.
“We will ensure that we protect them. We also ask them to be cautious of their personal security and safety. Our commanders in their respective areas will have an engagement with each of them to share information in view of protecting them,” he said.

Several leaders including former Buyende police commander Muhammad Kirumira and former Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga were gunned down after receiving death threats.
