KCCA Ejected Out Of Stanbic Uganda Cup

KAMPALA, Uganda: Now that they have to wait for another year before representing Uganda in the Continental Tournament, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), who were eliminated out of the 2019 CAF Championship by Congo Brazzaville’s Oto are now concentrating on winning the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

This hope was however thwarted after their loss  (3-1) in an away match against Fort Portal based ‘Underdogs’ Tooro United. KCCA played Tooro United, in Fort-portal, some 220 KM Southeast of Uganda’s capital Kampala against ‘underdogs’ Tooro United. The odds for winning according to many SA betting sites was pitted against KCCA. KCCA are the country’s reigning Cup holders and a win against Tooro United would only cement their chances as they seek to proceed to the round of 8 soon. KCCA manager Mike Mutebi has maintained nearly the same squad as one against AS Otoho D’Oyo on Sunday with only two changes. Filbert Obenchan and Mustafa Kizza are out of the game with Bernard Muwanga and Lawrence Bukenya taking their slots.

KCCA was drew 1-1 with Tooro United before they were beaten in spot kicks.

Tooro United joins the other 15 clubs that have qualified for the round of 16.

The other 15 are; URA, Wakiso Giants, Kyetume, Vipers, Kiboga Young, Proline, Express, Onduparaka, Bukedea Town Council, Nebbi Central, Bul, Bright Stars, Nkambi Coffee, Police and Kitara

The round of 16 draws will be conducted on a date yet to be confirmed.

The winner of the Uganda Cup qualifies to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup. The winner of the Stanbic Uganda Cup will this season walk away with UGX40m (USD$11055) following the increase of the prize money by the Sponsors, Stanbic Bank from the previous UX 90 million (USD$24900) to UGX 120 million (USD$ 33200). The runners up will grab UGX 20 million while the semifinalists will walk away with UGX 10m, quarter Finalists with UGX5m and UGX2.5m for each of the clubs that finish at round of stage 16.
