President William Ruto on Saturday arrived in Uganda to attend the country’s Independence Day celebrations.

The country is set to celebrate its 60th Independence Anniversary on Sunday.

He was received by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni at State House Entebbe.

The visit is also meant to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

While in Uganda, the President is expected to hold talks with President Yoweri Museveni.

The talks will come against the backdrop of Museveni’s son Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s remarks that appeared to spark a diplomatic tiff between Kenya and Uganda.

Muhoozi had claimed that he would capture Nairobi in two weeks.

His sentiments caused an uproar on social media in both Kenya and Uganda forcing Museveni to apologise.

Museveni said that it was not correct for his son to utter such remarks.

“I am very sorry for what my son Muhoozi did. I ask our Kenyan brothers and sisters to forgive us for tweets sent by General Muhoozi, former Commander of the Land Forces,” he said on Wednesday.

Ruto was accompanied by First Lady Rachael Ruto, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Nominee Alfred Mutua among other leaders

Ruto is expected to travel to Tanzania on Monday.
