Government has without fear or favor gave green light to ”devilish” Nyege Nyege festival despite public outcry and huge efforts by legislature to have it cancelled.
The above has been confirmed in a statement inked by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance-Chris Baryomunsi, who says the decision was taken at a meeting convened and chaired by the Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, at her office in Kampala, on 7th September 2022.
“Taking into consideration the fact that several preliminary activities have already taken place, such as the ticket and hotel bookings by participants, visa payments, and that resources have already been invested by the organizers, the event should be allowed to go on with strict compliance to the guidelines that will be issued by the government,” Nabbanja’s declared in the meeting something that has since left a couple of Ugandans especially religious leaders and several legislators spitting venom against her for permitting an event which is said to be promoting homosexuality and immorality in Uganda.
Remember; Nabbanja’s ‘unchallengeable” decision came after on Tuesday, Parliament, led by the Speaker, Anita Among, ordered that the event be stopped, saying Uganda can’t be a breeding ground for sexual immorality and homosexuality.
The Rt Hon Speaker Among was responding to the matter of national importance, raised by Tororo Woman MP Sarah Opendi.
Efforts by the tourism state minister, Martin Mugarra, to defend the social event as a hub of tourism met resistance from the House.
Mugarra claimed over 8,000 foreign tourists had already booked tickets for the event, but the legislators said this argument did not hold water.
God fearing speaker blasted Mugarra; “We are talking about the morality of this country; we are talking about our children. You are trying to promote tourism at the expense of our children? We are not going to allow this function to take place.”
You may also remember; In 2018 Former Minister of Ethics (RIP) Father Simon Lokodo fought tooth and nail to cancel the same event saying that he had got enough proof that it was promoting homosexuality and moral decay but he was overpowered reportedly by homosexual (LGBT) sponsors conniving with ruthless Ugandan mafias in government.
