Kampala: Police in Mukono are investigating a case of burglary and theft that took place at the home of government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo located in Nakago Cell, Ntawo, Central Division in Mukono Municipality.
When the thugs broke into the house, they were dressed in casual clothes with face masks. Opondo was not at home but his wife Jane Nalukwago Opondo and their two daughters were in the seating room watching TV, according to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesman for Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP).
Jane Opondo told police that the thugs entered the house through the main gate, which has no guards and was only bolted without a padlock. They then headed to the master bedroom in the company of Jane and the daughter and broke the wardrobes of the bedroom.
“In one of the wardrobes, there was a handbag of Jane Opondo with Shs 300,000 that they moved out with and her small feature mobile phone Nokia black,” says police adding that they later fled the scene without injuring anyone in the family.
However, the black Nokia phone that had been reported stolen from Mrs Opondo was recovered a few metres away from their house.
