Kampala: Medics at Lubaga Hospital in Kampala, have embarked on a Community Surveillance campaign after a patient who had been admitted at the health facility early this week tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Dr Andrew Ssekitoleko, the Executive Director of Lubaga Hospital, on Wednesday confirmed that a patient who was admitted in their Intensive Care Unit-ICU had tested positive for COVID-19.
The Ministry of Health thereafter took swift measures and transferred the patient to Mulago National Referral Hospital for specialised medical attention before revealing that they had gotten in touch with the patient’s family to offer social support and begin the process of contact tracing.
According to a statement released by Dr Ssekitoleko, the Hospital management, in conjunction with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Department of Health, have set up a Community Surveillance Program at the Hospital to screen for any community spread of COVID-19.
The management has encouraged the community of Lubaga South to approach the Hospital for testing in case they have symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 and to be vigilant in observing the standard operating procedures for its prevention.
“We encourage the community of Lubaga South to approach the Hospital for testing in case they have symptoms suggestive of COVID 19 and to be vigilant in observing the standard operating procedures for its prevention” the statement reads in part.
It adds that in partnership with Malteser International and with support from the German Government, Lubaga Hospital has set up an isolation unit to offer free treatment to COVID-19 patients from the community of Lubaga South.
