Lukwago Vows To Drag Police To Court Over Bobi Wine’s Blocked Concerts

By Andrew Irumba

Kampala: Kampala Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago has revealed that he is to petition court over the continued blocking of singer cum politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s concerts by police.

Lukwago says he will file an application in court challenging police’s continued blocking of Bobi Wine’s concerts and illegal house arrest.   Lukwago reveled this after receiving a file of documents of the cancelled Kyarenga Extra concerts from Events Manager Andrew Mukasa alias Bajjo Events, who was one of the concert organisers. Bobi Wine was slated to hold a concert on Easter Monday at Busabala One Love Beach but it was cancelled by police. He was later arrested and whisked to his home in Magere, Wakiso district, where he has since then been detained. Lukwago says he will set up a legal team to argue out the application basing on enforcement of rights and freedoms by courts as premised in Article 50 of the Constitution. He says the case is meant to ensure Bobi Wine and the entire Fire Base Crew return on stage to perform.

However, Mario Obiga Kania, the Minister of State for Internal Affairs told Parliament on Wednesday that Police was deployed at Bobi Wine’s home because they think he committed a crime and is expected to report to police any time soon.
