Man United Fans ‘Curse’ David De Gea Over Failure To Win FA Cup

David de Gea has been labelled as a ‘big, big problem’ for Manchester United as the Red Devils conceded a second goal in the FA Cup final.

The Spanish goalkeeper was the man between the sticks for the Red Devils at Wembley for their match against rivals Man City, but was on the receiving end of criticism in what could be his final game for the club.

Ilkay Gundogan – who broke the record for the fastest goal in an FA Cup final for City’s opener – cancelled out Bruno Fernandes’ equaliser just after half time.

Three Man United defenders stood between the City captain and De Gea, but the ball was allowed to creep in to the bottom corner despite it bouncing twice after it was hit on the volley.

De Gea’s future remains unclear, with his current deal expiring at the end of this month and reports suggesting he’s expected to sign an extension following his Premier League Golden Glove win this season.

However Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher – who was in tears at City’s opening goal – is adamant Man United need to find a new No.1 after watching De Gea fail to get down quick enough to stop Gundogan’s shot to allow City to go in front again.

“DDG is a big problem for Man United,” he said on Twitter after Gundogan’s second. “Is fixing that position more important than them signing a striker?”

Carragher isn’t the only one questioning whether the Red Devils need a new glovesman instead of relying on De Gea beyond this game, either.

“De Gea has cost this too many trophies man,” one Red Devils supporter wrote.

Meanwhile another fan said: “Another final and another disaster from David de Gea.”

A third supporter simply wrote: “Do not renew De Gea’s contract.”

De Gea went on to deny Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne from scoring a third, blocking the shot with his feet and marking one of a number of decent saves made across the game.

However Gundogan’s 51st minute goal made all the difference in the end, as Guardiola’s side were crowned 2023 FA Cup winners and took a giant step towards winning the treble.
