Medic Arrested Over Theft Of HIV Testing Kits

Police in Elgon region on Friday arrested a laboratory technician attached to The AIDS Support Organization (TASO), over theft of about 60 HIV testing kits worth Shs2.7m.

 Robert Tukei, the Elgon region Police Spokesperson, identified the suspect as Stephen Aupal,  who picked the testing kits from Bufumbo Health Centre IV on November 4, 2019 using a forged stamp and signature of the TASO branch Manager.

Tukei said that “The suspect is in custody at Mbale central police station as further investigations take place.”

Tukei revealed that that the suspect informed detectives that he sold the HIV testing kits to Tash Biomedical Laboratory Supplies Company Limited, which is located along Pallisa Road in Mbale town.

The suspect, together with two others still large, were charged with theft of government property vide file No. CRB 2002/2019 at Mbale Central Police Station and will be arraigned in court when investigations are completed.
