Kampala: Operations Manager, Melbet Uganda Mr.Yasin Asiimwe has donated equipments worth millions of Ugandan shillings including gum shields and bandages to struggling boxers who train at Kololo and Rhino Boxing Clubs.
Mr.Yasin says he reached on the decision of making this donation due to his undoubted love for sports but also after learning that over the years, Ugandan boxers have had a number of challenges that have affected the performance of the game both at the local and international level.
Giving his speech during the donation he said, ”For over the years, our dear boxers have had a number of challenges which have affected the performance of the game. Some of the challenges include lack of equipments to the extent of sharing things like gum shields, bandages, face towels and boxing gloves.”
Some of the challenges that have since lagged behind the boxing industry include lack of enough equipments by boxers to the extent of sharing items like gum shields, bandages, face towels, and boxing gloves.
”Sharing of gum shields has always led to an increase in the cases of flu amongst the boxers and hence failing to play or losing games,” said Yasin.
He says that it is from this background that he decided to use the little he had with the hope that others can start from there in a bid to change the situation.
Among the equipments he donated included 134 gum shields each costing 20,000 and 60 bandages each costing 30,000.
He pledged that soon he will be issuing face towels among other equipments something he said will continue till they curb the situation of sharing such sensitive materials.
