Min. Tumwesigye Hails Sheema Police As Heroes In Fight Against Crime

By Micheal Atwakiire

Sheema: Dr Elioda Tumwesigye Katsyamutwe, the Minister for science, Technology and Innovations, has praised the police in Sheema district as heroes of 2019, because of their great achievements in combating crime in the area.

Tumwesigye made these remarks at Katwe trading centre, Kyabandaara ward, Sheema municipality on Saturday evening, where he found Sheema police officers led by DPC SP Scovia Birungi and RDC Frank Kyereere sensitizing locals on how to protect themselves and their property.

The Minister said that “Sheema police officers have gone an extra mile in their work through their successful investigatons which have led to arrest and imprisonment of criminals, hence decreasing on the crime rate, especially murder cases of bodaboda cyclists, stealing motorcycles and robberies.”

Tumwesigye added that he believes there is no criminal who will remain in Sheema district if police officers continue with such great performance.

He thanked the police for the sensitization they were offering to the public, which he said was a service incomparable to no other, hence referring to them as heroes.

He however revealed his worry about people who no longer get scared of committing crimes, saying that ever since he was born he had never heard of anyone stealing a beehive full of bees without fearing they can sting him, but he’d heard of such a case in Sheema.

Sheema police detectives led by their OC CID Dennis Mbaine became famous for tracking criminals who kill boda-boda cyclists; they have since tracked some up to as far as Masaka and Kampala districts respectively before arresting them, which helped to reduce crimes like boda-boda thefts and robberies in the district.
