The Minister of integrity Fr.Simon Lokodo has written to Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, Minister for internal affairs Gen. Haji Abubaker Jeje Odong and Inspector General of Police Martins Okoth Ochola to stop and investigate the upcoming MTN festival dubbed MTN Nyege Nyege on grounds that it involves homosexuality activities.
In the letter, of which TheSpy Uganda got a copy, Fr.Lokodo asked the Minister for internal affairs to instruct IGP to urgently investigate the on coming Nyegengeye Festival, scheduled to take place this weekend in Jinja, saying he had reliable Information that homosexuals were using the festival to recruit youth into the vice.
“Underlying this heavily advertised event, may compromise national integrity of our nation and put other citizens at the risk of deviat sexual immorality.
I urge you to instruct Inspector General of Police to stop the event. I also propose to have a meeting with you, IGP and Director CID,” Lokodo wrote.
While appearing on floor of Parliament, Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda told Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah that government had received the information of homosexuals attending the event and the matter was already being investigated by police.
“This matter is being investigated by the Honorable Minister of Internal Affairs Jeje Odong and he is handling the matter with his team,” he said.
Ever since it began, the festival has been growing bigger each year attracting Ugandans and international participants. All of wining and dining take place for a period of three days.
Efforts to talk to main sponsors MTN were futile.
