The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, held a high-level meeting today with H.E. Amokrane Mourad, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Uganda, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters.

The meeting celebrated the long-standing diplomatic and economic relations between Uganda and Algeria. Hon. Oryem highlighted Uganda’s growing exports to Algeria, including powdered milk — with 400 tonnes already supplied — and coffee, where four Ugandan companies are actively engaged in bilateral trade.

Ambassador Mourad expressed gratitude for Uganda’s participation in the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) held in Algeria, where Ugandan products and innovations were prominently showcased.

The discussions also touched on the recently concluded Memorandum of Understanding between the Finance Ministers of both countries, which will facilitate the extension of Katakwi Hospital, a project set to begin in four months. Opportunities for Algerian scholarships benefiting Ugandan students were also explored.
Both Hon. Oryem and Ambassador Mourad reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, emphasizing mutual benefits for the peoples of Uganda and Algeria.
