Kampala: The latest on the reopening of recruiting companies is that the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development headed by Minister Frank Tumwebaze is to commence inspection of all licenced recruitment companies to attain their readiness on implementation of set Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) ahead of their re-opening.
The development has been revealed through the letter dated November 16, 2020, addressed to recruitement companies’ umbrella-body of Uganda Association Of External Recruitment Agencies (UAERA) informing them about the incoming event.
“The purpose of this letter therefore, is to request you to inform your members that the inspection exercise will commence on Wednesday, 18th November 2020 and the meeting with the relevant MDA’s has been scheduled for Monday 23 November 2020, “the letter reads in part.
TheSpy Uganda has established that this letter was a result of the meeting held on November 16, 2020 at the Ministry’s boardroom that resolved to announce the date of reopening after;
1. Inspecting all licenced recruitment companies and pre-depature orientation and training institutions to assess the level of their compliance with COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
2. Consultation with relevant ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in the externerization of labour sector on their readiness for reopening.

The development comes after a week when Minister Frank Tumwebaze announced the reopening of labour recruitment companies saying this will be done after issuing guidelines as per the ministry of health in order to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“This is to inform all licensed companies involved in the sourcing of external employment for Ugandan migrant workers, that following the relaxing of a number of COVID-19 lock-down measures by Ministry of Health and resumption of air travel, Ministry of Gender will be lifting the ban,” he tweeted.
