Msgr. Jjumba Appointed Bishop Of Masaka Diocese

Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Msgr. Severus Jjumba as the new Bishop of Masaka. Msgr. Jjumba is to take over from Rt. Rev. Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa, who has served as the ordinary of Masaka diocese for 21 years since 1998, having succeeded the late Bishop Adrian Kivumbi Ddungu.

Bishop Elect Jjumba was born on July 2, 1962, studied at St. Augustine’s and St. Paul’s Kitovu for his primary, completed his secondary from Bukalasa minor seminary Katigondo in Masaka, then completed his philosophy at St. Thomas Aquinas major seminary Katigondo and theology at st. Mary’s National Major Seminary at Ggaba that led to his ordination as a priest of Masaka diocese on June 20, 1992.

Bishop Elect Jjumba holds a diploma in Religious studies and a Masters in Education from Makerere University. The announcement of the new Bishop has been made by the secretary general Uganda Episcopal conference Msgr. John Baptist Kauta at 1pm this afternoon as instructed by Vatican through the Pope Nuncio Archbishop Luigi Bianco.
