The race for the 2026–2027 Guild Presidency at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) is steadily gaining momentum, with new aspirants stepping forward to present their vision for the institution’s vibrant student community. Among the latest contenders is Tevin Curts Mpambaara, a Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management (BTTM) Year Two student who has officially declared his bid for the guild’s top leadership position.

Running under the campaign theme “Love all, Serve all,” Mpambaara says his leadership approach will focus on inclusivity, service and strengthening the relationship between the student leadership and the wider MUBS community.

A young leader with public service roots

Tevin Curts Mpambaara comes from a family with strong ties to public service. He is the son of Prince Ronnie Mukombe, a communications officer at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development in Kampala. Growing up in a household exposed to government communication and policy discussions, Mpambaara says he developed an early interest in leadership, public engagement and service.

Friends and colleagues describe him as articulate, approachable and passionate about student representation. His academic path in Tourism and Travel Management reflects an interest in people-centered industries and global engagement—skills he believes are directly transferable to student leadership.

Academic background and campus engagement

Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management (BTTM) at MUBS, Mpambaara belongs to one of the school’s programs that emphasizes hospitality, travel and service management. The course equips students with skills in tourism operations, marketing, event management and international travel systems.

Those close to his campaign say his academic exposure to service-oriented industries has influenced his leadership philosophy, which focuses on student welfare, responsiveness and inclusive participation in guild affairs.

While still early in the race, Mpambaara’s campaign message emphasizes unity among students across different faculties, improved communication between guild leadership and the student body and a service-driven leadership style.

About Makerere University Business School

Makerere University Business School is one of the leading public business institutions in Uganda and a constituent college of Makerere University. Located in Nakawa, the institution is widely known for training professionals in business, management, entrepreneurship, tourism, procurement, accounting and public administration.

Over the years, MUBS has developed a strong reputation for producing graduates who play key roles in Uganda’s corporate, government and entrepreneurial sectors. Its guild leadership structure has also historically served as a platform where young leaders gain governance experience, debate policy issues affecting students and build leadership careers.

Guild elections at the school are often highly competitive, drawing candidates from different faculties and ideological backgrounds and are closely followed by students across the institution.

Race begins to take shape

With Mpambaara’s declaration, the race for the 2026–2027 guild presidency is expected to intensify as more aspirants unveil their ambitions and campaign agendas in the coming months.

Political observers within the university say early declarations often help candidates build grassroots support among student groups, associations and faculty networks.

For Mpambaara, the campaign message remains simple: leadership built on unity, service and accessibility.

“Love all, serve all,” he says, summarizing the philosophy he hopes will guide his leadership if elected.

As the campaign season gathers momentum, students at Makerere University Business School will increasingly be evaluating the ideas, backgrounds and leadership styles of the aspiring guild presidents who hope to shape the next chapter of student governance at the institution.
