Kampala: As President Museveni was taking an oath at Kololo Independence grounds, a group of  Makerere University students also held a parallel inauguration ceremony for outgoing Kyadondo East Legislator Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, during which the NUP faction declared Bobi Wine as the official president-elect of the Republic of Uganda.

“We all know it was Hon. Kyagulanyi who won these elections, will not take part in the misrule marred with corruption, conflicts, unemployment and impunity. We’ve been born under one president. We are not ready to die under him,” announced one of the students attending the controversial function.

The parallel ceremony was spurred by a congratulatory message post by the university’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe on his social media, who on behalf of the administration recognized Museveni as the elected President of Uganda.

However, angry opposition students have thus roasted Nawange for being unfair and siding with the ruling government yet he leads scholars from different political parties.

Meanwhile, the National Unity Platform (NUP) today had a National Day of Prayer and Fasting for the country to seek God’s intervention to free the country from what it termed as bad governance.

“As NUP, we have declared today a day of prayer and fasting. We will beseech God to heal Uganda. As Mr. Museveni swears himself in after a rigged election, killing, incarcerating and maiming people, NUP leaders will be at NUP offices to pray. You too can pray from wherever you’ll be,” Joel Ssenyonyi the party spokesperson said.

Ssenyonyi further dismissed allegations rife in the military circles that they were planning to hold a parallel swearing-in ceremony for party leader Robert Kyagulanyi adding that the only thing they could do was to seek God’s intervention to save the country.

“We believe that our country needs the intervention of the Lord because there is a lot of human rights abuse around the country. People who are being murdered, we have only wicked people ruling over us, so we shall be praying for God’s intervention,” said Ssenyonyi.
