Kampala: HE. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni yesterday commissioned the Entebbe International Airport COVID-19 laboratories that will be used as government testing facilities (mandatory) for all incoming passengers through the airport.

It is from this event that Museveni commended the good work by Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Army Brigade for setting up the facility.

Museveni ordered the Airport officials to immediately start mandatory COVID-19 tests for all those entering Uganda via the airport.

”These people told me they needed a few days to construct a canopy as well, I have no problem with it, but I asked them to start the process of testing that very moment. The rest can come while testing is going on,” said President.

The development comes at a time when the government is fighting tooth and nail to kick the virus out of the country mainly by use of vaccination something Ugandans have highly embraced most especially from September and October.

Of the 2.5 million vaccines so far used in the country, about half were administered in September and the first 18 days of October.

According to the Ministry of Health data, the highest uptake of the jabs (668,982) has been recorded this month days after Uganda back-to-back received 5.5 million vaccines, showing a positive correlation between higher vaccine stock and rising jabbed population.

Meanwhile, as of 21st, October 2021, the country has registered 125,537 COVID-19 infections, 3194 deaths and 96469 recoveries.
