President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday made a strategic stopover at Victoria Sugar Limited in Luwero District as he intensified his countrywide presidential campaign, using the industrial hub to underline his economic and infrastructure agenda ahead of the 2026 polls.

The President, accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, was received at the factory premises by Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, company directors, local leaders, and party mobilisers from across the Greater Luwero sub-region. The visit attracted thousands of enthusiastic supporters, many of whom lined the roads leading to the factory, turning the engagement into a de facto rally.

Addressing workers, farmers, and residents, Museveni acknowledged persistent power shortages affecting agro-processing and pledged decisive government intervention to stabilize electricity supply for industries. He said reliable power was critical to lowering production costs, boosting exports, and creating jobs—especially for young people.

“Industries like this one (Victoria Sugar) are the backbone of our economy. Government will address electricity challenges and other bottlenecks so that investors can expand and Ugandans can earn,” Museveni said, drawing applause from the crowd.

Victoria Sugar Limited: A Growing Agro-Industrial Player

Victoria Sugar Limited is a locally established sugar manufacturer that sources cane from outgrowers in Luwero and neighboring districts. The company has invested in value addition, farmer partnerships, and rural employment, contributing to household incomes and local revenue. Management highlighted challenges including power reliability, transport logistics, and financing, while reaffirming commitment to working with government to expand capacity and deepen farmer linkages.

Museveni’s Luwero appearance is part of a high-tempo campaign tour across Central and Northern Uganda, where he has combined mass rallies with targeted visits to factories, farms, and infrastructure projects. His message has centered on industrialisation, wealth creation, peace, and stability, alongside pledges to fix sector-specific constraints raised by communities.

After the Luwero engagement, the President trekked to Nakasongola District for the final rally of the day, where he continued outreach to pastoralists and fishing communities, reiterating plans for water, markets, and security.

Road to the Ballot

Ugandans are expected to head to the polls on January 15, 2026, to elect the President and Members of Parliament. As the countdown continues, Museveni’s campaign is increasingly blending policy pitches with symbolic visits to productive enterprises, positioning industry as a cornerstone of his next term agenda.

The Luwero stop—rich in history and political symbolism—underscored that message, as the President sought to reassure voters that power, production, and prosperity remain at the heart of his campaign. Let’s take you to the venue through the photos..
