Museveni Pledges Re-building St.Peter’s Church After Visiting Site Amidst Huge Gathering

Kampala: His excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today met the demolished St Peter’s Church leaders despite a huge congregation that was gathered at the site a threat of COVID-19 transmission.

The president while addressing the congregation, assured that those who geared up the demolition of God’s house will be punished by the courts of law.

“I am saddened by this incident and I give the church assurances that those complicit will be punished. Even if the church was in the wrong, ordering demolition was extreme. Dialogue would have resolved this matter” President said.

However, Museveni warned that Judges should have limits and understand public interests before making some judgements since demolition of the church is a curse.

President cleared the air about the allegations that Government had a contribution towards the demolition of this church.

President Addressing The Congregation 

He added that, he is going to invite the Namirembe Diocese Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira, and engage with all parties involved in this conflict to find a lasting solution that can let the Church retain the land, promising that, he has joined that war to make sure the church is re-built.

The bottom line is that the Church will retain this land and we shall build a new church. I have now joined this war” President said.

People Gathered Without Observing MoH Guidelines

Despite having the congregation gathered because of his presence, not observing any government and Ministry of health guidelines on COVID-19,  President cautioned thus; “I also noticed large groups of people gathering in Ndeeba as I inspected the site. This is wrong. Avoid crowding in light of the Covid-19 pandemic that we are grappling with”
