Kampala: H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni dubbed chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has officially intervened in the party scandals in Sembabule district by summoning all leaders for a meeting at state house.
According to a September,7,2020 letter by the Sembabule RDC Nickson Kabuye, the district leaders will meet Museveni on Thursday, September,10.
“I have been directed to inform and invite you for a meeting with the President of Uganda. The meeting shall take place on Thursday 10, September 2020 at State House Entebbe,” letter reads, adding that they are informed to report to Mulago National Specialized Hospital on September 8, 2020 for COVID-19 tests as a must.
Although the letter does not clarify the meeting agenda, there is a prediction that the discussions may rotate on the last week’s violation incidents in Mawogola North Constituency Sembabule district that let to fights between the candidates, agents and their supporters.
The race in Mawogola North included Museveni’s younger brother Godfrey Aine Kaguta also known as Sodo against Shartis Musherure, a daughter to Foreign Affairs minister Sam Kahamba Kutesa and another candidate Salim Kisekka. The trio is fighting to replace Sam Kutesa who is retiring from active politics.
The violences were not only cited in Mawogola North but also in West where the party electoral commission postponed the polls to allow investigations into acts of brutality and torture against one of the aspiring candidates.
This came after accusations by Hon.Hanifa Kawooya Bangirana that her opponent, Joseph Ssekabiito, the incumbent MP ordered his supporters to beat her up and left her near to death.
