HE. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to address Ugandans on the current economic quagmire that has seen commodity prices shooting higher for the last couple of months.

This has been announced by senior presidential press secretary Linda Nabusayi who says his boss’ address will be broadcast live from Nakasero State Lodge on all television and radio stations on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at 8 pm.

”HE. Kaguta Museveni will this Sunday, May 22, 2022, at 8pm address the Nation to update Ugandans on the current economic situation. The address will be broadcast live from Nakasero State Lodge. Please save the date & tune in, to all Television and Radios,” she tweeted.

The government for months now has been blaming the situation on the long-term effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the raging war in Ukraine but according to economists, some local measures can be taken to curb the situation.

According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, vegetable oil prices rose above 23 percent in March. Gov’t through Hon. Matia Kasaija, Minister of Finance tried to calm the population in a Parliament address last month saying Uganda wasn’t the only one affected by these challenges.

“The situation has been worsened by the Russian-Ukraine conflict which has further disrupted the supply of oil, cereals such as wheat, corn, sunflower oil as well as essential metals like aluminum and nickel. The two countries are major producers and exporters of these commodities,” declared Kasaija.
