Museveni’s Presidential Address Rescheduled Amidst Terror Threats

Kampala: The latest we’re getting from Uganda’s State House is that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s address that was scheduled for this Friday has been postponed.

Announcing via her Twitter handle, Presidential Senior Press Secretary-Linda Nabusayi Wamboka revealed that Museveni will address his bazukulu on the COVID-19 situation and related matters on Saturday, 20th, November 2021.

She says the address will be live on all TVs and radio stations countrywide at 8pm.

The development comes amidst panic in the country resulting from horrific dual incidents that ripped through the city at two different locations on Tuesday morning, the latest in a string of attacks over the past month.

The first explosion went off at Constitutional Square and minutes later another one exploded at Parliament Avenue hitting the Jubilee Insurance Building that also houses the Inspector General of Government offices.

At least 7 people have since been confirmed dead while dozens are still nursing wounds at Mulago hospital.

But you should remember that this was not the first incident, one person was killed and at least seven others wounded in an explosion at a restaurant in a suburb of Kampala on October 23. Another explosion two days later on a passenger bus killed only the suicide bomber, according to police.

ADF claimed responsibility for the restaurant attack last month but even before those attacks, the UK government had updated its Uganda travel advisory to say extremists “are very likely to try to carry out attacks” in this East African country.
