In a resounding display of political strength and grassroots support, Musinguzi Peter has been declared the NRM flag bearer for the LC5 chairperson seat in Bunyangabu District, securing a commanding 74.9% of the vote in the just-concluded party primaries.

Musinguzi, the incumbent NRM district chairperson, garnered 32,544 votes, leaving his closest rival, Kyaligonza John, far behind with 10,674 votes (24.6%). The third candidate, Nayemera Regan, managed just 209 votes (0.5%).

A total of 43,427 valid votes were cast in what observers described as a peaceful and transparent electoral process.

The results were officially declared by the district NRM Electoral Commission returning officer, Mr. Musiime Robert, who confirmed that Musinguzi had been duly elected to carry the party flag into the 2026 general elections.

Musinguzi’s political journey in Bunyangabu is well-rooted. He served as the interim LC5 chairperson when the district was carved out of Kabarole in 2018, becoming the first to hold the position. His landslide victory is widely viewed as an endorsement of both his leadership record and enduring popularity.

Speaking shortly after being announced the winner, Musinguzi expressed gratitude to the voters and pledged continued commitment to service delivery, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment if elected in 2026.

“This victory is not mine alone. It is a victory for every resident of Bunyangabu who believes in transformation and unity under the NRM,” Musinguzi said.

With the primaries concluded, Musinguzi now turns his focus to the general election, where he is expected to face opposition from other political parties. Political analysts say his dominant performance has firmly positioned him as the frontrunner in the LC5 race.

The NRM Electoral Commission commended the process in Bunyangabu, describing it as inclusive, well-coordinated, and largely peaceful, even as some districts across the country grappled with concerns over low voter turnout.

As the district enters the next phase of campaigns, attention now shifts to Musinguzi’s strategy for consolidating support and securing a decisive victory in the 2026 local government elections.
