In a dramatic media shake-up, celebrated political commentator and talk show host Edgar Mathew Karuhanga has officially signed off from DIGITALK, the flagship current affairs program he helped define with his sharp analysis and poised moderation. Edgar hosted his final episode on Monday evening, drawing an emotional close to a remarkable run that earned him both critical acclaim and a loyal viewership.

This reporter, Andrew Irumba, CEO of TheSpy Uganda, had the honor of being among the last two panelists featured on Edgar’s farewell broadcast—a poignant moment filled with heartfelt reflections and visible emotion from the team.
Throughout his tenure, Edgar built a reputation as a composed, intellectually grounded host who brought nuance and clarity to Uganda’s political and socio-economic discourse. His leadership on DIGITALK turned the show into a hub for opinion leaders, young professionals, and policy enthusiasts alike.

While he remained mum about his next move during his sign-off, credible sources in the media industry have revealed to TheSpy Uganda that Edgar is likely headed to Next Media Services, the media conglomerate behind NBS Television.

“Kin [Kariisa] gave him a killer offer he couldn’t resist,” a well-placed insider told us on condition of anonymity, referring to the influential CEO of Next Media.
On Tuesday morning, The Alternative Uganda, the platform behind DIGITALK, posted a moving farewell message across its social media channels. The statement praised Edgar’s contributions and wished him well in his next venture:
“You’ve made a real impact on our team… Wishing you success and happiness.”
The tribute was accompanied by a radiant portrait of Edgar and a caption that read:
“Farewell to Edgar Mathew Karuhanga. We’re honored and proud to have worked with you. We wish you success in the next chapter—you will be greatly missed.”
As fans await official word on his next destination, one thing is clear: Edgar’s exit marks the end of an influential era for DIGITALK—and potentially signals the dawn of a compelling new chapter at NBS Television.
