NCHE Issues Strict COVID-19 SOPs As Medical Schools Move To Open On 13th August

The National for Higher Education (NCHE) has permitted all medical and health institutions to reopen mentioning that these are sources of specialized human resources for the health sector.

NCHE’s Letter On Medical School’s Reopening 

In an inter-Ministerial meeting held on 4th august 2021, it was agreed upon that medical institutions reopen on 30th August starting with finalists and postgraduate students and thereafter other years join in a staggered manner.

Meanwhile, this was later on 6th August 2021 changed when the Executive Director of NCHE Prof Mary Okwakol announced that the reopening dates for medical institutions have been brought forward to 13th August 2021 as per her letter below;

“Reference is made to my letter dated 5th August 2021, regarding reopening of medical schools and health training institutions. The date of reopening of medical schools and health training institutions has been brought forward from Monday 30th August to Friday 13th August 2021,’’ Prof Okwakol noted.

In the 5th August letter, NCHE had noted that inspections of COVID-19 SOPs in all schools will be conducted after re-opening and later the vaccination of all students kick-off.

Among the SOPs NCHE aired out in the first letter for all schools to observe while reopening included; students and teachers to get vaccinated as soon as vaccines get available, continuous observance of earlier announced Ministry of Health SOPs and ensuring that every student has a mask before reporting back to school.
