Victoria University has unveiled a significant leadership transition, formally ushering in Meera Ruparelia to its governing echelon as the Representative of the Directors to the University Council. The appointment, confirmed in a press statement dated April 16, 2026, marks both a moment of renewal and solemn continuity following the untimely demise of her elder brother, the late Rajiv Ruparelia.
Meera’s ascension to the Council is not merely procedural—it is deeply symbolic. She inherits a mantle previously held by Rajiv, a transformative figure widely credited with redefining private higher education in Uganda through innovation, enterprise-driven learning, and an unwavering commitment to experiential education.
Carrying Forward Rajiv Ruparelia’s Legacy
University management underscored that Meera’s appointment reflects a deliberate effort to preserve and extend Rajiv’s visionary blueprint. His tenure was characterized by an aggressive reorientation of academia towards practical competence, industry integration, and global competitiveness—principles the institution insists will remain non-negotiable.
While acknowledging the profound loss, the University conveyed confidence in Meera’s capacity to sustain that momentum. Insiders within the institution describe her as strategically aligned with the Ruparelia Group’s broader educational philosophy, suggesting continuity rather than disruption. 
In her inaugural engagement with the Council, Meera reaffirmed her commitment to positioning Victoria University at the cutting edge of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Her focus, according to the statement, will center on narrowing the long-criticized disconnect between academic instruction and industry demands—a gap that Rajiv had aggressively sought to eliminate.

The University’s management extended its formal congratulations, signaling strong institutional backing for Meera’s leadership. Observers note that this endorsement is critical at a time when private universities in Uganda face increasing scrutiny over quality, relevance, and sustainability.
