The Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development has scheduled a hearing to address disputes between the founders of New Hope Uganda, a registered NGO, following allegations of mismanagement, clandestine promotion of LGBTQ activities within the young generation and deviation from the organization’s primary objectives.
In a letter dated December 23, 2024, signed by Ssekitto Moses on behalf of the Commissioner for Land Registration, the ministry invited representatives of New Hope Uganda to a hearing set for January 31, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. The hearing aims to resolve a complaint filed by Byenkya Kihika & Co. Advocates on behalf of Mr.James A. Dangers, one of the organization’s founders.
The complaint alleges that the Board of Trustees of New Hope Uganda has deviated from the NGO’s original mission as outlined in its certificate of registration. Mr. Dangers, through his lawyers, is calling on the ministry to exercise its powers under section 15 of the Trustees Incorporation Act to issue relevant orders in the interest of the trust.
Sources close to the matter revealed to our Spy that Mr. Jay Dangers and his co-founder, Jonnes TB, have been embroiled in a bitter dispute over ownership and the mismanagement of funds. Allegations have surfaced that the organization has strayed from its founding objectives, further fueling tensions between the two parties.
In light of these developments, the government has expressed its intention to resolve the dispute through the scheduled hearing. If unresolved, there are indications that the ministry may consider dissolving it to protect the interests of the public and ensure compliance with the law.
This hearing represents a critical moment for New Hope Uganda as it seeks to navigate these internal challenges while preserving its mission and the trust of its stakeholders.
About New Hope Uganda
New Hope Uganda is a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable communities across Uganda, with a particular focus on children, orphans, and marginalized groups. Established in the early 2000s by a group of committed individuals, including founders Mr. Jay A. Dangers and Jonnes, New Hope Uganda was created to address the pressing challenges faced by these groups, especially in rural and conflict-affected regions with their core focus on education, healthcare, water and sanitation, economic empowerment and child welfare.
The organization quickly gained recognition for its work and expanded its efforts across the country. Over the years, it has built a strong reputation for integrity, transparency, and effective community-based interventions.
New Hope Uganda operates from its head office in Luwero, with several regional branches across Uganda, including Gulu, Mbarara, and Mbale. These regional offices manage the implementation of projects and programs, ensuring that they meet the specific needs of the communities they serve.
The organization is governed by a Board of Trustees and led by an Executive Director. It relies heavily on both local and international partnerships to fund and carry out its activities, including collaborations with other NGOs, government agencies, and private sector entities.
While New Hope Uganda has made significant strides in supporting marginalized communities, it continues to face challenges, particularly with governance issues, leadership disputes, and the need for sustainable funding. The ongoing dispute between the founders has raised concerns about the organization’s future. There’s also an allegation that there’s silent recruitment of the youth into LGBTQ 🌈 practice by Mr Dangers and his International funders. Although the matter is often kept under wraps. Accordion to our Spy, this is on the bigger departure point between the Ugandan Jonnes and Mr Dangers, an American national.
