Newly selected Tooro King, His Royal Majesty Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, has appointed Nyakaana Paul Businge Akiiki as his Interim Principal Personal Secretary (PPS) and Spokesperson, marking the first major communication appointment under the new royal administration.

In a statement dated September 15, 2026, the King announced that Nyakaana would immediately take charge of his official communications and serve as the main point of contact between the Omukama’s office and the public.

“I have appointed Mr. Nyakaana Paul Businge Akiiki as my interim Principal Personal Secretary (PPS) / Spokesperson to immediately take charge of the above subject,” the statement reads.

The appointment places Nyakaana at the centre of the King’s public communication, with the new spokesperson expected to handle official messages and communications issued on behalf of the Omukama.

The statement also introduced Nyakaana’s official communication channels, including his X, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok accounts, through which information from the King’s office is expected to reach the public.

The appointment comes just days after Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I was formally presented as the new Omukama of Tooro following his selection by the Babiito royal clan council.

As Interim PPS and Spokesperson, Nyakaana is expected to help establish the communication structure of the new royal administration as the Kingdom begins a new chapter following the death and burial of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

The King’s statement also announced the termination of all his previous personal official social media accounts with immediate effect, meaning communications from the Omukama’s office will now be channelled through the newly designated communication team.

Nyakaana’s appointment is therefore expected to provide a centralised platform for official announcements, royal engagements and other activities involving King Edward and the Tooro Kingdom.

The statement was signed by the new Omukama and carried the royal motto: “Unity, Continuity and Prosperity.”
