Kampala: Next Media has significantly expanded its sports broadcasting capabilities with the official launch of a new channel, NBS Sport 2. The channel, which is dedicated entirely to live sports action, went live on Saturday, August 9, airing exclusively on the digital platform AfroMobile.
The move comes just over two years after the launch of the original NBS Sport channel in 2022. According to Next Media, the rapid growth in local sports content and events has created an overflow, making a second channel a necessity.

Andrew Kabuura, the Head of Sports Broadcast at Next Media, explained that the new channel will solve the issue of having more content than a single channel can manage.

“We’ve reached a point where we have more content than we can handle with one channel. NBS Sport 2 is here to ease that load. It will be our live action channel,” Kabuura stated.

Previously, simultaneous events like concurrent basketball or rugby matches presented a significant scheduling challenge. NBS Sport 2 is designed to eliminate this problem, allowing for multiple live broadcasts at once and ensuring fans don’t miss their team’s games.

The new channel will prioritize live coverage over studio shows or replays, a move that promises to give more airtime to a wider variety of sporting disciplines that have previously received limited exposure.
By launching exclusively on the AfroMobile app, Next Media is also making a strategic push towards a digital-first approach, enabling viewers to stream games live from their mobile devices anywhere.
“AfroMobile has transformed how audiences access content in Uganda. Now, you can watch authentic African stories directly on your phone, anytime, anywhere. That’s why NBS Sport 2 will air exclusively on AfroMobile,” Kabuura added.
The inaugural broadcast for NBS Sport 2 was the Gulu Rugby 7s, which aired live from 8 AM to 6 PM on its launch day.
