NFA Officials Arrested Over Corruption, Charged AT Anti-Corruption Court

Police in Kampala have arrested and charged officials of National forestry Authority (NFA) on allegations of soliciting money from the public inform of a bribe.

The arrested were identified as Bagonza Ernest Stephen 54 years, a Mutooro by tribe, who is the  coordinator of law enforcement NFA residing in Mbuya Nakawa, Division and a one Taremwa Kassim aged 35 years, a Munyankole by tribe, working as a business development executive with global logistics at Nakawa, residing in  Kyanja, Nakawa Division, Kampala District.

It is stated that Bagonza Stephen and Taremwa Kassim  between the 20th  and 22nd of March 2019 at National Forestry Authority Bugolobi  in Kampala district , solicited for a  gratification of shillings five million  from Ravi Raji, Baingana Leonard and Akena Amos in exchange of release of motor vehicle Reg. No UAS 388/ UAQ 209C Scania Truck loaded with 25 pieces of timber logs of Afzelia African (Beyo trees) which had been impounded and parked at NFA Headquarters.

The duo was charged with two offences of corruption under ant corruption act 2009 and abuse of office contrary to section 11(1) of the anti-corruption act 2009.

The duo secured a cash bail of Shs.6.5 million from the Anti corruption court in Kololo and will return on the 15 April 2019 for mention of their case.
