No Excuse for Failure To Vote- Gov’t Declares January 14 &15 As Public Holidays In Uganda

 

Kampala: The government of Uganda has officially declared the January 14th and 15th official public holidays.

Ugandans will participate in elections from Thursday, January 14th, hence the government has declared a public holiday to allow the process.

According to a statement from the Permanent Secretary for Public Service Ministry  of information, communication technology and national guidance, Catherine Birakwate, 14 and 15 January 2021 will be observed as public holidays through out the country to enable citizens take part in the general elections.

“The Hon Minister for Public Service informs the general public that Thursday 14th January and Friday 15th January 2021 will be observed as public holidays throughout Uganda to enable citizens to participate in the elections of the president and members of parliament,” reads the statement

Uganda has about 18 million voters with more than half of them located in rural settings, this has been to enable voters to travel upcountry and take part in the voting process.
