The State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU), working jointly with the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and the Kampala Central Police Station, has arrested Robert Kasoma Sserumaga in connection with the illegal production of counterfeit Numa Products. The arrest followed a formal complaint alleging copyright infringement and illicit manufacturing activities at his residence in Lubowa, Kampala.

According to SHIPU, the raid was conducted on Thursday evening after intelligence revealed that Kasoma was involved in producing fake Numa-branded goods—an act authorities say undermines legitimate business, threatens jobs, and distorts Uganda’s economic progress.

Col. Edith Nakalema, who heads the State House Investors Protection Unit, condemned the growing trend of counterfeits, describing it as “an attack on genuine enterprise and a direct threat to investor confidence.” She reaffirmed that her office will continue to work closely with key government agencies to protect businesses that have contributed meaningfully to Uganda’s development.

Numa Feeds Ltd, the manufacturer reportedly targeted by the counterfeit operation, is owned by Mr. Robert Matsiko, an entrepreneur who has spent more than 30 years building the brand and adding value to the country’s agro-processing sector. SHIPU emphasized that safeguarding such long-standing investors is essential for sustaining growth, jobs, and innovation.

“Uganda cannot afford to let counterfeiters sabotage enterprises that have supported the economy for decades. Those involved in such illegal activities will face the full force of the law,” SHIPU noted in a statement.

Authorities say the suspect will be charged in accordance with anti-counterfeit and intellectual property laws, and investigations are ongoing to establish whether additional individuals are involved in the production network.

Government agencies have reiterated their commitment to creating a secure, fair, and competitive investment climate—one where both domestic and foreign investors can operate without fear of sabotage or unfair trade practices.

SHIPU has urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspected cases of counterfeit production or distribution to relevant authorities.
