Just few days ago, a police man shot and killed a UPDF officer in Mbarara, a day before that, a security guard shot dead himself at Lumumba Avenue making a total of six people who have been silenced by guns in one month including a murder by shooting of Col Charles Okello Engola, the Deputy Minister for Gender and Labour, who was killed by his security guard few weeks ago.
In the 2022 police annual crime report, Kampala Metropolitan North registered the highest number of murders by shooting within the city, registering 19 cases, followed by KMP East with 10 cases, while KMP South registered 8 cases.
Some of the killings have been blamed on elements linked to the Islamic extremist Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group. Others were either targeted attacks or simply the consequence of violent crime.
