NRM SG Lumumba Blames FDC For Stagnating IPOD Summit

Kampala: The National Resistance Movement Secretary Party General Justine Kasule Lumumba has reaffirmed NRM’s continued support towards the good causes of the Inter Party Organization for Dialogue (IPOD), and urged other political parties to remain focused on its Memorandum of Understanding.

Hon. Kasule Lumumba’s reaction came after the Opposition Chief Whip and Forum for Democratic Change ( FDC) Spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda vowed that FDC had taken a decision never to attend IPOD Summits anymore.

Semujju, who was appearing on a TV talk show with Lumumba on Thursday night, added that FDC would this month take up the rotational seat as chair of the Summit with the main agenda of forcing President Yoweri Museveni out of office.

However, the FDC Mission irked Lumumba, who hit back immediately saying that FDC is failing IPOD even before they come in.

“How do you generate the agenda for the council from the Frontline Show? That’s not how IPOD operates. President Yoweri Museveni’s fate can only be decided by the voters and not the FDC leaders who have even failed to demonstrate quality leadership skills!” Lumumba retorted.

She added that “IPOD has its work plans and MoU in place. NRM are the minority with only 5 members, the sister parties (opposition) have 20 in total. FDC should mobilize others to support their agenda other than running away from responsibility.”

Ssemujju also said that FDC fears to interface with President Museveni because he failed to find a suitable response to their demands.

Lumumba however wondered why the same FDC members chairing Committees in Parliament find time to meet the President over other issues and hesitate to interface with the same person under IPOD.

She further added that they attend the IPOD meetings and make valuable deliberations but FDC shy away when it comes to meeting with the President.

FDC is to take over from Democratic Party (DP) as the next chair of IPOD later this month and the current Chairman Nobert Mao said he was only being delayed by FDC to hand over.

Lumumba, as one of the members of the committee for IPOD discussion, implored FDC to quickly take up the leaders so that most of these political ideas can be amicably addressed.

“Take back our message to FDC; that they should come and offer leadership. We are ready to work with them. Come and build on what others have put in place. Don’t dismantle their achievements. NRM remains committed to IPOD”, Lumumba further said.
