Only Museveni Can Protect Our Oil From Vampires-Bunyoro NUP Coordinator Kasigwa Crosses To NRM

Bunyoro: The National Unity Platform (NUP) in Bunyoro sub-region is crying foul following the news of its chief coordinator, Godwin Angalia Kasigwa Akiiki abandoning the party to join the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) shortly after the party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine traversed the area for votes ahead of 2021 general elections.

Kasigwa revealed that his decision to abandon NUP followed a meeting with President Museveni during which they discussed issues affecting the Bunyoro Kingdom such as land rights, oil royalties and boosting commercial agriculture among others.

“Basing on the outcome of the meeting, I wish to bring the attention to you all especially the NUP fraternity and opposition that I have decided to respect the historical role played by the NRA/M revolutionaries and agreed to cooperate with the ruling NRM government and President Museveni to see that our agenda is incorporated, anomalies created by colonial rule in Bunyoro get fixed, peace maintained and promoted,” Kasigwa posted on Facebook.

“I am no longer a member of NUP, I have joined NRM Party led by HE General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” he emphasised.

Before joining NUP, Kasigwa had served as a National Executive Committee (NEC) member of the opposition Democratic Party for years. He unsuccessfully contested for MP Buliisa County in the 2016 polls.

“My family participated in the protection of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom under previous kings before helping the NRM to rise to power, I have a legacy to protect,” he noted.

“Violence is war and I can’t fuel or be part of the team which has dimensions and elements of destabilizing the country. War in Uganda will disadvantage Bunyoro most due to oil and gas activities that’s we need to keep the peace because we are one,” Kasigwa added.

It’s worth noting that Bunyoro sub-region voted overwhelmingly with over 70 per cent for President Museveni in the 2016 elections.

In 2019, Bunyoro leaders from the districts of Buliisa, Hoima, Kagadi, Kakumiro, Kibaale, Kikuube, Kiryandongo and Masindi endorsed President Museveni as the sole candidate for the 2021 Presidential elections.
