The three-day graduation ceremony starts tomorrow, Wednesday, at the university main campus in Kampala and ends on Friday.

Prof Eli Katunguka, the Vice-chancellor, said this is the highest number the university is graduating, with the other high numbers having been 7,078 last year and 6,479 in 2016.

Prof Katunguka also revealed that tuition fees defaulters will be allowed to graduate but will not be allowed to pick their transcripts.

“This time we have said that students will graduate on the basis of having completed academic requirements. If a student has passed all the prescribed courses, he or she will graduate. There are students who still owe the university money but we are going to give them the chance of graduating and clear their dues later,” Prof Katunguka said.

Students from the School of Management and Faculty of Special Needs will graduate on Wednesday, those from Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Vocational Studies will graduate on Thursday while Faculty of Education, Science and Engineering will graduate on Friday.

The Vice Chancellor also revealed that President Museveni re-appointed Prof John Ssebuwufu, as the University Chancellor and that he will preside over the graduation ceremony.

He also revealed that they are going to introduce central marking at the university to reduce delays in students’ marks with Prof Katunguka assuring that students will get their marks in one to two months.

“We are going to reinstate central marking which had failed. We are going to ensure that each faculty collects students’ scripts in once central room for marking and we are optimistic that this will reduce on the time of releasing student’s marks on time, unlike in the previous where they have been taking over 6 months marking exams,” Prof Katunguka said.
