Panicky Police Releases Sick MP Nambooze, Lawmaker Okayed To Seek Further Treatment In India

Commissioner of Police at Criminal interrogations department has signed a state bond to partially free detained Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze Bakireke to go for further medical care in India.

This comes after enormous pressure from Uganda Human Rights Commission, activists and members of parliament from Buganda who this week stormed Kiruddu Hospital demanding police to release the lawmaker who has been bedridden in dire medical condition,after she was brutally arrested and the Ambulance she was being driven in being knocked by a speeding police patrol.

Nambooze has been given a state bond as police awaits her medical situation to normalize and continue with their investigations.

On Tuesday, Mulago Hospital cleared the legislator to travel abroad for further treatment.

The hospital executive director, Dr Byarugaba Baterana advised that Nambooze needed urgent and special medical checkup as soon as possible for her metallic back.

Nambooze has been under police guard at Kiruddu Hospital in Kampala, an affiliate of Mulago National Referral Hospital since she fell ill while in detention at Nagalama police.

Police arrested Nambooze on charges of offensive communication and computer misuse under reference CID E191/2018 of Kibuli after the death of Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga who was shot dead by yet to be known assailants. The vocal lawmaker was accused of threatening Abiriga before he died.
