The Pan African Pyramid (PAP) has been plunged into mourning following the death of one of its founding members, Counsel Araali Baguma Richard, only months after the organisation lost another pioneer member, former Kalangala Woman MP Helen Nakimuli Walusimbi.
Baguma, who was a prominent member of the Pan-African organisation, died at a time when PAP was still coming to terms with the death of Nakimuli, who passed away in April 2026. Then, PAP described Nakimuli’s death as a profound loss to the Pan-African movement and remembered her for her commitment to humanity, justice and the dignity of African people.
The death of Baguma has now dealt another major blow to the organisation, which has over the years brought together pan Africanists across the globe to debate issues affecting Africa.
Reacting to the death, PAP Speaker and Chairman Andrew Irumba Katusabe mourned Baguma as a colleague, friend and comrade whose contribution to PAP and the Pan-African cause would not easily be forgotten.
“The passing of Counsel Araali Baguma Richard is a tremendous loss to the Pan-African Pyramid and to all of us who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. He was a dedicated comrade, a man of principle and a Pan-Africanist who believed in the power of Africans to shape their own destiny. His contribution to our cause will remain part of the history of PAP.”
Baguma’s burial programme indicates that a vigil will be held from September 3 to 4, 2026, at Njara, before a church service on September 5 at 2:00pm at St. John’s Cathedral in Kyaraka, Kyenjojo District.
He will be laid to rest on September 6 at 10:00am at Bugaki Subcounty, Kyataraka, Kyenjojo District, opposite the Health Centre on the main road to Fort Portal.
The news comes just days after PAP held its 2026 Global Awards and 12th Anniversary Dinner at Speke Resort Munyonyo, where the organisation celebrated Pan-Africanism, humanitarianism and African development.
