Pay Our Allowances Or We Support Opposition-Furious NRM Youths Roast Museveni Over Unfulfilled Promises

Iganga: Woes in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) seem to be far from ending as angry youths under their umbrella organization ”Team Thorough for Yoweri Kaguta Museveni” have vowed to shift their support to opposition come 2021 if Museveni doesn’t fulfill his promises to them.

During a heated meeting held at Babra gardens in Bulamagi Sub County in Iganga district on Thursday, the group revealed that they  have been mobilizing for support for the ruling NRM party at the grass-root level for the past few months but have never been paid their accumulated allowances as promised by the president.

The youth further revealed that they have now resolved to lay down their tools until a clear explanation is given to them as to why their allowances have never been cleared.

According to the chairperson of Team Thorough eastern region, Paul Tusubirwa. , they were promised some allowances unspecified by the NRM party secretariat to mobilize support among the youths in the eastern region for the past five months but have up to now they have not been paid.

“Some of our youths keep on abusing us saying we have embezzled their allowances yet no money has been received to that effect,”  Paul Tusubirwa said

Tusubirwa noted that the youths now are threatening to cross over to the opposition National Unity Platform in case nothing is done to solve the issue of allowances.

The angry youths later burnt down yellow t-shirts and posters belonging to the ruling NRM party to express their anger for having been ignored.

In the same Vein, Youth League members have also vowed to shift their efforts and support opposition Presidential candidates if they are not granted autonomous mandate and resources for campaigns.

“Please Your excellency Sir, let your campaign be youth led, minus that don’t be surprised of an event that can occur and it will be shameful for the first of its kind in Uganda,” Twaib Achile, the chairperson NRM national Youth league said

Achile, noted that the fact that youth votes have increased from 7 million in 2016 to 11 million now calls for special attention from fellow youth leaders not from the elderly persons, adding that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni should consider granting them an independent status lest they shift goal posts to other candidates in the opposition.
