The Joint Security Task Team actively involved in operations aimed at disrupting and dismantling, the newly created rebel group of the Uganda Coalition for Change (UCFC), has arrested an additional 21 suspects accusing them of being part of the rebel group planning to overthrow President Museveni. This now brings the total number of arrested suspects to 29.
According to Police, the additional 21 suspects that were arrested within the axis of Kiboga, Mityana and Kassanda attended training in weapons and military drills at the UCFC rebel camps in Wabunyira and Kikandwa villages.
”The group has so far carried out 3 attacks in Wakiso, Busunju and Kiboga. The majority are youths recruited from Wakiso district, who were recruited and transported to Mityana. They joined the rebel group with has plans of overthrowing the sitting government,” alleges Police.
This group joins the 8 members that were arrested a few days back among them including; Makumbi Mosh alias Engineer, the field commander, and a resident of Wakiso, Lugendo Stuart Savior alias Kufateeka a 28-year-old, male adult, and Deputy Field Commander from Wakiso district.
Others are; Mulindwa Julius, a 32-year male adult, from Bukerekere village, Wakiso; Masembe John Nasif, a 28-year-old, male adult from Kassanda district; Yamuremire Paul, a 19-year-old, male adult from Kisoro district, Ssenyonga Bob Robert a 25-year-old male adult from Rakai district; Nabukenya Topista, a 50-year-old, female adult from Namayumba, Wakiso; and Matovu Silvester, a 21-year-old, male adult from Wakiso Town Council.
”We want to reiterate that we do not target or investigate any individual or group because of their affiliation, belief or ideology. It is only where these beliefs and affiliations lead to violence, impurity and lawlessness that we shall bring the perpetrators to book,” Police defends its self.
