Police Arrest ‘Soldier’ For Kidnapping Trader, Hunt 4 Others

Kabale: Uganda Police officers on Wednesday arrested a man suspected to be Military personnel over allegations that he and four others at large kidnapped and robbed Shs10m from a trader in Kabale town.

The suspect identified himself as Bahram Twebaze ,31 years old, a resident of Ruku village Kagunga Sub-county Rukungiri district and claimed he is not a UPDF soldier, but that the uniform belongs to his brother who is serving in Somalia.

It’s alleged that on Independence Day October, 9, 2019, at around 12:30Pm, while at Mayengo along Katuna Kabale Road, unknown armed people with a pistol, traveling in an army Pajero whose army number plate was not established, kidnapped Semwogerere Kijwengye, a money changer at Katuna border and drove him in his own vehicle registration number UBE 981F Lexus ‘Kahundo’, white in colour.

Soon thereafter police officers were alerted and immediately they deployed at all access roads within the region until they intercepted the kidnappers at Kisizi hospital.

After a brief scuffle, the police managed to arrest one of the four kidnappers, who was dressed in full army uniform, although the ones who escaped using the Pajero vehicle which had army number plates were putting on plain clothes.

Fortunately, the victim was alive but he told police the kidnappers had robbed his money totaling to over Shs10m.

Our Police sources revealed that investigations are underway viding file number CRR 85/2019 Katuna to establish the particulars of his associates and whether he is  a civilian or otherwise.
