Police Arrest Son, Uncle For Strangling Mother To Death

Sheema: Police in Kabwohe municipality, Sheema district, on Monday arrested a son and his uncle who confessed that they killed an elderly lady identified as Efuransi Batebekeine, 50 years old, who was a resident of Kyabandaara village.

Godius Tayebwa,25, and Jackson Turyahabwe, 28, confessed at Kabwohe police that it’s true they killed Batebekeine, on September 25, 2019, and later hanged the body in her house located in Rushogashoga cell, Kyabandaara ward Sheema central division, in Sheema municipality.

They told police that they hanged her with an aim of hoodwinking the public into thinking that Batebekeine had hanged herself.

Police sources reveal that Tayebwa is a stepson of late Batebekeine while Turyahabwe is her brother-in-law.

Police told TheSpy Uganda reporter that Tayebwa told them he decided to kill his stepmother in order to sell his late father’s property, claiming that Batebekeine couldn’t allow him sell even a small part of the land.

They revealed that he had agreed with Turyahabwe that after the deal, they were to sell the land and share the money.

However, Turyahabwe told police that he was used to killing.
He also confessed that following the death of his elder brother a one Patrick, he had been using Batebekeine for sex and that before killing her, he’d first alerted her that he was going to sleep with her, only to end up killing her.

Police told this reporter that they used phone tracking systems to arrest the two suspects from Buloba, a Kampala suburb, where they were hiding.

They have since been remanded to Nyamushekyera prison after being charged with cases of murder vide file number CRB 688/2019 of Kabwohe police as investigations go on.
