Police in Lubowa have arrested five suspects believed to be behind a series of motorcycle robberies that have plagued the areas of Lubowa and Ndejje since June 2025.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachel Kawala, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation aimed at dismantling a suspected criminal network targeting motorcycle owners and riders within the metropolitan area.

The suspects have been identified as Kamoga Sharif, also known as Mugisha (20), Byagaba Liberty (20), Ssempungu Patrick, also known as Junior (23), Ssegawa Stuart (19), and Ssenyonga Denis (25).

Police say the breakthrough came on February 5, 2026, when security operatives conducted a targeted operation in Kyengera Town Council, leading to the arrest of Kamoga Sharif alias Mugisha. Following his arrest, he reportedly guided investigators to other members of the group, resulting in the capture of the remaining suspects.

During the operation, police recovered one motorcycle, registration number UMA 663HM, which is believed to have been stolen and dismantled for resale of its parts.

Investigations indicate that the suspects would rob motorcycles and later dismantle them before selling the parts on the black market, making it difficult for victims to recover their property.

Police say a total of 14 victims have so far been identified in connection with the robberies reported between June 2025 and March 6, 2026 in the Lubowa and Ndejje areas.

Kawala noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects and other individuals suspected of facilitating or promoting the criminal activities.

She added that investigations into the matter are still ongoing as police work to dismantle the wider network behind the motorcycle thefts.
