The Uganda Police have launched a hunt for a man only identified as Emmanuel, who is suspected to have butchered three children in Kyankwanzi District, on Tuesday morning, before fleeing into hiding.
A statement from ASP Atwiine Mansio, who is the spokesperson for the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), about the murder reads in part thus;
“One Wanted Over Murder Of 3 Children
Police in Kyankwanzi is hunting for a man identified by one name, Emmanuel, following unconceivable murders he committed today 30th June at around 10:00Am at Kagarama LC1, Butemba Town Council in Kyankwanzi District.
A team of police officers responded to the scenes following a phone call from one of the residents who informed them that Emmanuel, who was armed with a panga, had attacked the home of Kalfred Mushabe and cut people without any known reason, who later ran for their dear lives.”
ASP Atwiine added that; “Immediately the adults ran away, Emmanuel cut a baby identified as Tayebwa Joel aged only 4 years, son of Kalfred Mushabe.
Emmanuel proceeded to another home of workers at a maize plantation and threatened to cut the women he found working at the plantation.
Unfortunately as the women ran away Emmanuel hacked two more kids to death, namely Nakisindi Nora aged 3 years, and Ninsiima Joel, aged 9 months.
As the survivors were making an alarm the killer disappeared into a big maize plantation where police and the community are vigorously pursuing him.
Emmanuel had gone the village and hired land from one of the residents Kalfred Mushabe, where he has been cultivating maize and also staying alone in his makeshift house (Manyatta).”
However, residents of Kagarama are still puzzled as to why this gruesome murder was committed, because there has not been any known conflict between Emmanuel and the victims, neither did they know him to be a person living with insanity.”
ASP Atwiine continued that; “Postmortem has been done at the scene, and more than 8 other people who were badly injured by Emmanuel have been taken to Butemba Health Centre III, while others were referred to Hoima General Hospital for proper medical attention.
We extended our condolences to the grieved families and pledge to pursue this killer and arraign him in Court for prosecution.”
